Hello! Welcome to my new blog, all about life, from being a mummy to food and everything inbetween!
I’m going to start with this post about Milo’s first birthday, enjoy!
On the 4th of august 2016 at 10:56pm we welcomed little Milo into the world. His first year went by so fast, and we had many adventures!
So this year when his first birthday came around, we decided it was only fitting to go on an adventure to Hamsterley forest for a BBQ and games! I’ve been going there since I was a little girl myself, and this made us picking this location extra special! The forest has been improved since I was young, with the new trails and Gruffalos and play parks. There are plenty of parks and fields for you to set up in, most within walking distance, but there is a road down the forest drive that leads you to other fields further away, perfect for family time! There are also trails for hikers and places to walk the dogs along the river trail. All in all, it’s a fantastic day out, and the no phone signal can be a plus point to get all the kids involved and off technology.
Planning this came with its own challenges, since the forest has zero phone signal, meaning no contact to tell people where you are, or ask for help when you forget the fire lighters! However, once we got the BBQ started, with Milo’s dad doing one, and his Grandad doing the other we soon got to relax and have fun with the ball games, Milo even joined in throwing the ball with Auntie Amelia!
We were very lucky with the weather in Redford as we only had one shower, and since the forest is covered in trees it didn’t affect us too much, and luckily his Ouma and Oupa thought ahead, and brought a gazebo, which came in very handy when lighting the candles on the cake! We even thought it would be extra special for Milo to decorate his own cake! (with help, of course) which turned out better than we could have hoped for, and he had fun too! This really added to how special the day was.
After a successful day, all the food was done, and candles blown out we all left feeling very happy (and very sleepy for Milo!). We will definitely be going back to do it all over again, and when Milo’s up and walking we will go for a mini hike too!
